Battle Tower

Complete Battle Tower guide for Polished Crystal. Browse all 400+ Pokémon sets across 4 tiers, learn about the tier system, and prepare for challenging battles.

Introduction

The Battle Tower is the ultimate postgame challenge in Polished Crystal, located in Olivine City. Test your battle skills against consecutive trainers with optimized Pokémon sets across four competitive tiers. Succeed in streaks of 7 battles to earn valuable rewards and climb the difficulty ladder.

This guide covers all 400+ Pokémon sets you'll face, organized by tier and searchable by species, moves, and items.

How It Works

  • Level 50 Format - All Pokémon are temporarily set to Level 50, creating an even playing field
  • Streaks of 7 - Complete 7 consecutive battles without losing to advance and earn rewards. The final trainer of your third streak will be a boss trainer with a tough team
  • 3v3 Battles - Each trainer uses a team of 3 Pokémon selected from the tier pool
  • Progressive Difficulty - As your win streak increases, higher-tier Pokémon appear more frequently
  • No Item Clause - Trainers can use duplicate held items across their team
  • Save Between Streaks - Your progress is saved after completing a streak of 7, but not during

Tier System

The Battle Tower uses a 4-tier system to categorize Pokémon by competitive viability. Enemy teams are constructed based on your current difficulty level, with higher difficulties featuring more A and B tier threats.

A Tier

Top-tier threats including legendaries, pseudo-legendaries, and highly optimized competitive sets. Expect perfect coverage, max power, and dangerous strategies. Note, the following Pokémon are excluded from Battle Tower:

  • Mewtwo
  • Mew
  • Lugia
  • Ho-Oh
  • Celebi

B Tier

Strong competitive Pokémon with well-rounded stats and solid movesets. These sets can easily sweep unprepared teams.

C Tier

Mid-tier Pokémon with specialized roles or niche strategies. Still dangerous with proper support or favorable matchups.

D Tier

Lower-tier options that appear early in streaks. While less threatening overall, they still feature optimized sets for their stats.

Difficulty Progression

The game uses a tier selection table that determines which tiers appear based on your current difficulty level (1-8). At difficulty 1, you'll mostly face C and D tier Pokémon. By difficulty 8, expect primarily A and B tier threats with only occasional lower-tier Pokémon.

Pokémon Sets

Below is the complete database of all 400+ Pokémon sets available in the Battle Tower. Use the search and tier filters to find specific Pokémon or browse by difficulty level.

Strategy

In the Battle Tower your opponents will have randomised teams pulled from the tier relevant to your streak. This means you can create teams with a specific strategy in mind, giving you an edge over the other trainers in every battle. For example:

  • Use a weather team and take advantage of moves improved by weather (for example Thunder in rain, Solar Beam in sun), abilities that boost speed under weather (Swift Swim in rain), and changed defensive dynamics (Tyranitar getting more special defense in sand, Scizor's Fire weakness being mitigated by rain)
  • Use defensive screens (Light Screen and Reflect) to give your team opportunities to remove key threats or to set up for a sweep
  • Use a set-up sweeper with moves like Dragon Dance or Swords Dance to break through strong threats.
