Your pocket guide to Pokemon attacks

Browse the complete move database for Pokémon Polished Crystal. Every move entry includes detailed stats covering type, category (Physical, Special, or Status), power, accuracy, and PP (Power Points). Understanding move mechanics is crucial for building effective movesets and team strategies.

Physical moves use the Attack stat and target the opponent's Defense, while Special moves use Special Attack against Special Defense. Status moves don't deal direct damage but provide strategic advantages through stat changes, status conditions, or field effects. Many moves are also available as TMs (Technical Machines), HMs (Hidden Machines), or from Move Tutors - check individual move pages for acquisition details.

Why STAB and Type Coverage Matter

STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) gives moves a 1.5× power boost when the move's type matches the user's type. For example, a Water-type Pokémon using Surf deals 50% more damage than a non-Water type using the same move. This is why it's crucial to include STAB moves in every moveset.

Type coverage refers to having moves that are super effective against many different types. A Pokémon with Water, Ice, and Electric moves can hit more types for super effective damage than one with only Water moves. Good coverage prevents your team from being walled by common defensive types and ensures you always have an answer to opponent Pokémon.
