About PolishedDex

Hi! I'm Cammy and I built PolishedDex.

This project started as me being lazy and not wanting to look up source code data in GitHub. I realized I wanted an exercise in prompt engineering with different AI models so I could get ahead at work.

Yes, a lot of this project has been built with the help of AI tools. I completely understand that that is controversial and have to remind that this resource is not a substitute for original human creativity, thought, strategy, nor referencing the original source code which is available! (Honestly, Github navigation is a good skill to have anyways.)

As a person who has is a developer as a day-job, I wanted to expand my knowledge on AI and prompt engineering. It's something I need to do to make sure I stay relevant in my industry. Did I ever anticipated PolishedDex growing into what it is today? Absolutely not. I seriously just wanted to not have to look up johto_grass.asm anymore.

It goes without saying, you do not have to use or support PolishedDex! I totally get it. I am just trying to be as transparent. Regardless of how you feel about AI tools that I have used on building the extraction function for PolishedDex, I urge you to join the community and talk to humans who have played the game. They are not associated with PolishedDex but rather with Polished Crystal directly.

Anyways, what is PolishedDex?

PolishedDex is a comprehensive, fan-made database and companion website for Pokémon Polished Crystal, a popular ROM hack started by Rangi42 and managed and maintained by many additional developers too. Our mission is to provide players with accurate, detailed, and easy-to-navigate information about every aspect of the game.

Whether you're looking for Pokémon stats, move details, item locations, trainer battles, or strategic guides, PolishedDex will try to be your go-to resource for Pokémon Polished Crystal.

How It Works

PolishedDex is built using modern web technologies and relies on automated data extraction from the Pokémon Polished Crystal source files:

• Data Extraction: I parse assembly (.asm) files from the game source to extract Pokémon data, moves, items, trainers, and more.
• Regular Updates: When Pokémon Polished Crystal is updated, I re-extract data to keep our information current.
• Quality Assurance: I verify diff checked data and cross-reference it with the game to ensure accuracy.
• Community Feedback: Players can submit feedback to report issues or suggest improvements.

What is Pokémon Polished Crystal?

Pokémon Polished Crystal is a comprehensive ROM hack of Pokémon Crystal created by Rangi42. It features:

• Quality of life improvements and bug fixes
• Expanded Pokédex with all Pokémon through Generation IV
• Enhanced graphics and new sprites
• Improved battle mechanics and move effects
• New areas, events, and features
• Two game modes: "Faithful" (closer to original) and "Polished" (enhanced version)

Accuracy & Updates

I extract data directly from the Pokémon Polished Crystal source files and update our database when new versions are released. However:

• Data may occasionally contain errors due to parsing issues or source file changes
• Information may become outdated between game updates and our data extraction
• I am not responsible for any issues arising from the use of this information
• When in doubt, review the source code for the game or ask the community.
